FAQ
Frequently asked questions
The price depends on several factors: The price per word of the source language according to the price level of the target language, the number of repetitions in the text, the use of translation memory (TM), the format to be processed and the type of translation.
Example: Translation of a user manual with many repetitions, in a common file format such as .docx, .xlsx or .pptx, without additional DTP processing and using a translation memory for pretranslation is one of the simplest, most cost-effective types of translations to complete.
Official translations are subject to GBI act No. 382/2004 on experts, interpreters and the subsequent declaration GBI No. 491/2004 on the minimum price per standard page. The total price of a translation depends on the volume and the language combination.
We also provide individual services: proofreading, text editing and DTP (prepress preparation). The calculation depends on the text and the client’s requirements. Therefore, the fastest, easiest way for interested parties to find out the final price is to request a quotation through the nonbinding quotation form at our home page. The quotation department will process your document within two hours.
We can process and translate all common formats, such as .doc, .xls, .ppt, .xml and .po, graphic formats like .ildoc, .mif, .idml, .pdf, .indd, .cdr, .eps and .ai, as well as other Windows or Mac OS formats.
Thanks to the latest versions of content management systems (CMS), such as SDL Trados, MemoQ and Across, we can easily handle formats like .sdlxliff, .xliff and .mqxlf, CAD image formats such as .dwg and .dfx and non-editable formats like .jpg, .png, .wmf, .pcx, .tif and .tga.
Absolutely! We can use your existing translation memory (TM). At your request, we can also offer you terminology management to keep your TM at the state of the art for premium-quality translations in the future.
Repetitions are meaningful text units, such as sentences or table cells that repeat, whether within one document or across multiple documents (cross-file repetitions). Repetitions can be completely identical or have slight variations. They most often appear as character strings, numbers or codes.
Fuzzy matches are parts of text within a document and that show matches to the TM being used. This extremely useful tool, integrated into a CMS, such as SDL Trados, searches for the closest match between character strings based on the segment of translated text (tolerating a certain amount of deviation) and performs a pretranslation. This allows the translator to work faster by confirming or editing the suggested translation. This ensures uniformity in the translation.
What’s especially important to you: Repetitions and fuzzy matches save you money, because we don’t charge you the full price for these segments.
The original file is the file created in an editable program. We need it so that we don’t have to import the text from a non-original file. In the case of a PDF file, our DTP department has to convert the file into an editable format, such as .docx, which will result in additional cost for the DTP work. If you have the original .docx file or have access to it, that will speed up the translation process and save you money.
The time a translation takes mainly depends on the language combination and volume. In small countries, there are fewer translators, and they have a heavier workload. To ensure uniformity in a translation, we assign multi-page projects to just one translator, which increases the time to completion. However, we always try to accommodate your wishes and the need for an earlier delivery date, so we offer you flexible options.

OUR HISTORY
Years of experience
During our time in business, we have had numerous successes, gained invaluable experience, formed important partnerships and memberships, and translated billions of words. And we have no plans to slow down. We have always experienced our greatest progress through expansion and growth of the company. It has transformed work processes and brought newly developed software for synchronous information flow and simpler communication. But above all, it has taken us to a new level and broadened our horizon. The timeline below shows some of our major milestones.
Establishment in Slovakia
On 14 May 2001, when a young translator gained his first large customer, a dream became a business plan. Soon after, the first colleagues joined. This was the beginning of the Tetras brand.
Headquarters in Germany
A focus on the German market soon made it necessary to establish a company headquarters in Munich to respond to our customers better. This was the beginning of the Tetras GmbH headquarters.
Poland/Czech Republic/USA
In an effort to enter new markets and to build our own language resources, we have established several locations. We now employ internal translators for 10 European languages, American English and Russian.
Tetras’ company building
More than 70 project managers and employees ensure trouble-free operation at our site in Slovakia. Thus, the next important step was moving into our own building in Žilina, Slovakia.
